Publisher (books) goes Social Media; Do or Donít?

I am writing a thesis for a publisher in the Netherlands and I am examining the possibilities for the implementation of social media. How could we reach potential readers? Is it relevant to profile the publisher company or should we stimulate our authors to use new social media? I am looking for theories, suggestions any ideas?

If the publisher manages a web magazine, this will help to to link social networking icons with ease. If this is not the case then I suggest you start by making a web edition which invites everyone to subscribe and link the web site to their social networks.
