Case Method with Different Student Competence Levels
You may consider setting up the case work in a way that it includes competence development between the students as part of the case work during the case work.
When it comes to team analysis, allow the students to be part of the evaluation, both self evaluation and evaluation of colleagues.
Also consider what you are measuring; competence increment: absolute or relative, or is it the absolute level of competence?

Case Method with Different Student Competency Levels
It is well known the Case Method, as it is generally used, makes limited contribution to theoretical tools, in the understanding that it's the student that has to look for and choose the best ones to support the diagnose and decisions (which is the main focus of the method).
However, if the competency levels are very different, a round of discussion may be done after the individual analysis and group meeting, but before conclusions are made and before the plenary discussion, just to see what theoretical tools are useful for the case. In that instance, the professor may suggest some tools, explain them, or perhaps make the students who know them explain to the others.
