Crucial Dialogue Model Refines OODA Loop
Johan Roels, Consultant, Belgium, Member
The OODA loop is not new… It is as old as mankind (otherwise we wouldn’t be here).
The foundation of the “OODA loop” and more of these loops (“PDCA” as already mentioned) is the Creative Interchange process, discovered (not invented) by Dr. Henry Nelson Wieman and updated by Dr. Charles Leroy Palmgren.
And if we focus on decision-making, I find my Crucial Dialogue Model, as said based on Creative Interchange, clearer. In that Model the ORIENT part is split in two:
- Appreciative Understanding (of the information) and - if needed -
- Creative Integrating of ideas into possible actions.
And (only) then it's time to DECIDE, which means decide which of the possible actions will be chosen. Part of the decision proces is finding out if we have the means (manpower, budget, time) to do the actions.
Once decided which actions will be executed, it's time to ACT (Continuous Transformation in CDM language).
Creatively,
Johan.

More on Crucial Dialogue Model

Thanks for your posting Johan. Very interesting. When I summarized OODA recently for decision making I had the same logical idea (to split up the second O into 2 parts).
Please tell more about your Crucial Dialogue Model and send me a picture if you have any.

Thanks Jaap for your reply.
You can find a lot around my Crucial Dialogue Model on the internet.
It has been the basis of my book 'Cruciale Dialogen' (in Dutch, so that shouldn't be a problem for you).
A lot has been published in Dutch on www.innovatieforganiseren.nl for instance: www.innovatieforganiseren.nl/gastcolumns/het-cruciale-dialoogmodel/
A lot has been published on slideshare. Net, for instance: www.slideshare.net/johanroels33/crucial-dialogue-model-2016-57781366
And you can find a translation of my book in French here: www.slideshare.net/johanroels33/les-dialogues-cruciaux
If you accepts the post office costs, I'll send you a copy of my book.
Creatively,
Johan.

Thanks Johan for these references. I was hoping you could enter a good summary of your model here? That will make it easier for interested people to read about it.

Thanks Jaap, I will see what I can do. Is there a possibility to add a picture to my summary. I'm not familiar with your website, so I don't really know how to do it. Please send me the instructions by Direct Mail.
You could post here the Powerpoint Presentation I've published on slideshare.net (it's downloadable there).
Creatively,
Johan.
