Benchmarking Approaches
Tonnis van Dam, Business Consultant, Netherlands, SIG Leader
Processing a benchmark often means investing a lot of time in getting relevant data and determining the best practices. What approaches do you use to get data? Most used systems are:
- Custom-made benchmarking system with online data delivery tool
- Standard benchmarking system with implemented benchmark with online data delivery tool
- Online data delivery tool
- Excel
- Questionnaire by phone
- Questionnaire on paper
The most efficient tools are the custom-made and standard benchmarking software tools, since most of the work is done by the system, including data validation, checks and balances, completeness checks etc.
When using Excel it is still very easy to make mistakes in data entry, leading to non usable data entries.
Over the phone you can ask more questions, but it costs a lot of time.
