It occurs to me, you can interchange roles between the supervisors of production and QA. This could be a practical way of develop benchmarking, each person now understanding each other's responsibilities and roles.
Do you think that is feasible?
 

 
External Benchmarking of the Quality of Production Methods

When we're considering benchmarking (the quality of) our products with that of competitors, we can also consider benchmarking our production methods / processes with those of competitors / similar production entities.
The aim of the QA people in such an external benchmarking process should not be trying to be smarter than the production people, but that working together as a team, we try to beat the competition.
