How to Achieve Process Alignment and Harmony with the Baldrige Criteria

  • The first step is having/updating an organizational profile - this is an at-a-glance of who you are. This includes documenting Key Success Factors and Key Challenges; Mission, Vision and Core Values. Some companies I've worked for in the past did not identify these important factors; therefore, they did not work on the things that really mattered -- just business as usual.
  • The second step is benchmarking "key" processes that other Baldrige Award recipients have in place and determine if those processes could improve your organization's performance or would support the Key Success Factors or Key Challenges you have identified.
  • The third step is to have your team respond to the Criteria questions/statements - here's where you may see gaps during those discussions.
  • The final step is to have Baldrige Examiners assess your responses and results for improvement. Alignment is the result of people working integrated processes together to achieve the objectives -- that's Harmony!
