What is Work from Home / Remote Working? Meaning.![]() Work from home (WFH) is a broad, umbrella term for a manner of working in which employees do not commute or travel to a designated work location owned or operated by an employer, like an office building, factory, warehouse, or store. It is also referred to using various other terms and acronyms such as WFH, remote working, telework, teleworking, working from home, mobile work, a remote job, work from anywhere (WFA), and flexible workplace. History of WFHTelecommuting started in the 1970s, but became more popular as remote/internet working in the 1990s due to the arrival of computers, modems, the internet, laptops and Wi-Fi, and later as mobile working using apps, smartphones and tablets, enabling more and more people to work from home or indeed from a coffee shop or anywhere else. A major boost was given to the practice of WFH by the COVID-19 pandemic in 2019 and beyond, forcing workers to perform their work duties remotely.
