What is CommonKADS? Meaning.CommonKADS provides an integrated and comprehensive methodology for identifying valuable knowledge, capturing and modeling that knowledge, and incorporating it into knowledge-intensive information systems. CommonKADS is a methodology encompassing knowledge management and knowledge engineering. It provides an approach to identifying valuable knowledge,
capturing such knowledge, modeling it formally (in a form suitable for computers)
and developing knowledge intensive systems, as well as softer change aspects
of systems implementation. The CommonKADS knowledge model extends the traditional
object /data model by providing a richer set of constructs with which to represent
knowledge (not just data), allowing contextual aspects of a situation to be
included. Origin of CommonKADS. HistoryThe method was developed and proved by a consortium of universities and companies funded by the EC's ESPRIT program. It builds on, and integrates, organizational analysis techniques, psychology for knowledge capture, object modeling and the waterfall/ prototyping lifecycles. Usage of CommonKADS. Applications

Strengths of CommonKADS. Benefits
Limitations of CommonKADS. DisadvantagesThe upfront knowledge capture effort needed in CommonKADS projects sometimes tests the patience of system sponsors until they see the results. Assumptions of CommonKADS. ConditionsCommonKADS is particularly effective / most cost effective when the situation is complex, such as where product and business process are inter-related or where user expertise is an important part of an effective information system.
