How to analyze a vertical software market? Here is a method to do it and a sample on analysis of telecom operator software market (OSS/BSS)

When you analyze a vertical industry software market, such as the market for software used by the telecommunication operators, you need to analyze:
- the customer business and factors impacting it (e.g., deregulation, change from territorial model to global, etc.)
- operative business process changes due to this impacting the requirements for the software (e.g. faster service creation processes, high priority of customer self-service etc.),
- technology interfaces needed by the software (e.g. various mobile system interfaces, impact of IP etc.), as well as
- impact of the software market dynamics (OSS/BSS market size, dominating positions, segments, M&A etc.)
Based on these you can analyze the phase of evolution from in-house software to IT services and further to products and platforms (SDFs and SDPs) and other dominant designs. And further, create scenarios of the alternative evolution steps based on the Vertical Software Industry Evolution model.
