Losing 5Star Employees During Recession
Emmanuel Guobadia , HR Consultant, Nigeria

Most Organization tend to lose their Highly Talented Employees during periods of Recession. It is therefore important to imbibe certain principles to ensure our "good hands" are not filtered away with the recession.

To enable us retain our 5Star Employees during Restructuring, Redundancy or Demobilization Exercise during the Recession period, the following should be put into consideration:
Generate a list of 5Star Employees based on Knowledge, Skills and Attitude as verifiable from Performance Appraisal Records.
Offer a Lower rate as part of the mitigating plans to keep good hands.
Deploy Good Employees to areas where they may be needing more hands rather than engaging fresh employees
Use the opportunity to develop and train 5Star employees using Internal facilitators to learn new skills that may be useful during peak periods.
Place 5Star employees on shift patterns e.g. 2 weeks on and 2 weeks off.
Communicate, Communicate and Communicate to give them a sense of belonging. .
