Is DMAIC a Problem Solving Tool?I've found many references across the internet indicating what seems an interchangeability of Quality Improvement and Problem Solving strategies. As I see it, Quality Improvement focuses on reducing variation / increasing conformity around a nominal or target. While Problem Solving is used to make things go away. In both strategies many of the same tools are used, but the desired outcome is not the same. 8D is a well known Problem Solving tool..... but can DMAIC also be used as a Problem Solving Tool - or should it stay in the Improvement tool box? |
