Caution for Leaders of Volunteers
Sunday ELKANA (koachkonsult) , Manager, Nigeria

Leaders of Volunteers can Achieve as much as Leaders of Paid Workers.

1. Explain Your Expectations: Tell them early on, and in simple and specific terms, your expectations.
2. Cast Your Vision: People will rebel when they don't understand their roles. Share testimonies of the changes brought about by what your team is doing together. They need to see end results.
3. Understand Your Value as a Leader: Your work is more significant than you think. You have the right to demand more from your team. Don't be afraid to do it because the stakes are too high.
4. Small Corrections Make a Big Difference: Avoid bigger mistakes by making small corrections early. Don't be too nice.
5. Hold Them Accountable for their Performance: Poor performance demotivates the best people; help them stay on the mark. Don't be so desperate that you feel overpressured to keep the bad eggs in the team. Fire them when necessary.
6. Be the Kind of Leader they all want to Follow: Make sure you inspire them. Take advantage of their skills..
