How to Gain Buy-in in the Strategy

Buy-in is the first ingredient required for strategic implementation

The strategic planning phase is important and if the whole EXCO and MANCO team have not bought into the strategy and the tactical plan the implementation will not succeed as it was intended.
Buy-in can be gained by:

  • The CEO selling the strategy as the "only way"

  • Creating workgroups in the planning sessions

  • Having tangible measures in place for measuring the success of tactics

  • Developing scorecards that are relevant to both the main strategy and the tactical plan and having the participants deliberating on the measures

  • Using the SMART model for developing measures

  • Cascading the strategy to tactical and operational levels by using the RACI model

  • Making sure each scorecard measure has a dedicated owner - an accountable person

  • Its not so much about the strategy, its about implementing and measuring its success within specific periods (Quarters and Years)
