CHANGING ROLE OF THE MANAGER.


Sucessful manager's role should change from being the custodian and the safe keeper of scarce resources to the one who makes the company vision a realistic one. Once the business strategy is agreed upon, first job of the manager is to have the right team to convert strategy into action. During this process, it is essential that the output of the efforts of the team is quantified and measured initially on an hourly basis against pre - determinded targets. It is the manager who has to look at the numbers and evaluate the progress hourly without waiting for the weekly, monthly, quarterly, bi annual or annual reviews. Keeping the team spirit at a high note is essential and the team must be incentiwised depending on their motivational type (dissatisfiers and satisfiers). Every success should be followed up by celebration of some sort. Manager's role should actually be a team builder & leader, time keeper, evaluator and the one who goes with the best option to achieve targets.
