Performance management as a key element of HR
Performance management as a practice of high and critical value in the performance of an organisation is often understated. Most line managers who need to implement performance standards in an organisation, often shy away if not shirk their responsibility towards managing performance of their direct reportees. Line managers feel that performance should also be handled by HR just like how the line feels about managing discipline at the workplace. The issue here often is the lack of competence on the part of line to handle performance and discipline related issues.
