Vijfde Discipline - Senge Voor Peter Senge (1990) is verandering teamen, en leren is verandering. Zo is het mogelijk voor organisaties te leren veranderen omdat wij „in wezen allemaal leerlingen zijn“. In zijn boek „De Vijfde Discipline“, wil Senge de illusie vernietigen dat de wereld is gecreëerd uit afzonderlijke, niet gerelateerde krachten. Wanneer wij deze illusie opgeven, dan kunnen wij „lerende organisaties“ bouwen, organisaties waar mensen voortdurend hun capaciteit uitbreiden om de resultaten te creëren die zij echt wensen, waar nieuwe en expansieve patronen van denken worden gevoed, waar de collectieve aspiratie wordt vrijgelaten, en waar mensen voortdurend leren hoe zij samen kunnen leren. Managers moeten leren om de zeven organisatorische „onbekwaamheden tot leren“ te ontdekken en de „Vijf Disciplines“ als tegengiffen tegen deze 7 te gebruiken.


De Vijf Disciplines van Senge

De vijf componenten in het model van Senge zijn:

  1. Systems Thinking. De integrerende (vijfde) discipline die de andere 4 in een coherent lichaam van theorie en praktijk smelt.

  2. Persoonlijke Beheersing. Mensen moeten hun leven en hun werk beschouwen zoals een kunstenaar een kunstwerk zou beschouwen.

  3. Geestelijke Modellen. Diep ingewortelde veronderstellingen of geestelijke beelden die beďnvloeden hoe wij de wereld begrijpen en hoe wij actie nemen.

  4. Het Ontwikkelen van een Gedeelde Visie. Als er een echte visie is, blinken mensen uit en leren, niet omdat zij het moeten, maar omdat zij het willen.

  5. Leren in teams. De team-leden nemen deel aan ware dialoog. Zij schorten hun veronderstellingen op.

Al deze 5 disciplines moeten worden aangewend in een eeuwigdurende zoektocht om de capaciteit van de organisatie uit te breiden om zijn toekomst te creëren. Lerende Organisaties zijn die organisaties die voorbij overlevingsleren kunnen gaan naar het uitvoeren van generatief leren: een vorm van leren die hun capaciteit verbetert om te creëren.
