The above is a very good description/definition by Warren Bennis.
Check out Three laws of performance (Steve Zaffron, Dave Logan):
- First law: performance/action correlates to how the world occurs for you/us. This is WYSIWYG - what you see is what you get.
- Second law: how the world occurs for you/us arises in language. This is WYSIWYG - what you say is what you get.
- Third law: WYSIWYG, really! Transformational leaders understand that a declaration of the future world, as an inspired vision, stimulates the power of enrollment and commitment. Walking the talk can be managers cranking the machinery, or can be leaders inspiring and influencing breakthrough strategies.

Transformational leaders / managers are consistent and constant in their vision / goal in developing others to achieve more, not only throughput / output at work but in themselves.
Their goal is to see a higher level of self actualisation of their staff, when that happens, when after months or years of consistent and constant leadership, they can see the positive changes (verified by others) you know you are transforming others.
Only then - WYSIWYG.
