Imagining Black Swan Risks - an ERP Experience
Jagdish B Acharya, Consultant, India

During an ERP implementation I have come across some important users who imagine and articulate Black Swan scenes and make the ERP solution complex. Quite often due to legacy systems' limitations, some of the extra tasks which are normal for new system are imagined as Black Swans and lead to implementation delays and complexities.
The "solutions" for such cases are often workarounds and create more problems overall. During our implementation such cases were discussed in detail. When I asked if the tail is trying to move the elephant, all laughed and understood the situation and ERP was not modified to take care of that eventuality. After 10 years I am now convinced that it was the right decision.
