Task Reminder Tool / Task Reminder Software
Arul Palani, Project Manager, India

Task reminders - I am looking for some tool wherein I can remind all task owners in advance, based on tasks that are over due, due and task expected to complete in future date. MS Project?

Arul, MS Outlook can do this! You can assign tasks to contacts, define reminders and get feedback.

Time Planner Calendar

Well, a traditional tool you can use is a time planner calendar which I currently use.
No automatic reminders here, but if we bring it everywhere we go, and write every plan, we could organize on it...
We'll be a "self reminder".

Arul, MS Outlook is very good.

Task Reminder Tool - MS Project

Thanks Tony for your inputs. What I am looking for is some options wherein I can utilize the MS Project application to automate report for the tasks, which in turn I can use in MS Outlook to send reminders to all the stakeholders.

Sharepoint as an Option?

Arul, Microsoft Sharepoint collaborates with others by allowing one to set alerts that synchronize with Outlook.

How to Remind Task Owners?
T. Stahl, Business Consultant, Canada
I think you can filter on task owner, and create an indivual report that would show tasks over due, due and to be complete in near future. You could simply attach the report to a MS Outlook reminder.
However, I would recommend weekly team meetings to do this instead. I think it is far more effective than relying on technology to manage this.
I would also ensure that task owners are indeed committed to the project and their tasks, and self-manage to a large degree. The "task master" approach rarely works all that well.

How to Remind Task Owners?

I concur with T Stahl. The key is to remind yourself of specific deliverables and monitor project progress. Once you've tasked others, let them self manage, and report to you accordingly. If you feel they are not meeting objectives, just provide support and training, or have more frequent meetings to prevent slacks and disappointments.

Task Reminder Methods

MS Project and MS Outlook or Sharepoint are all tools to maintain team's focus on project objectives and their individual significance. These agile methodologies really help to continually keep members in sync with their responsibilities during the week.
That can be combined with Monday- and Friday-morning wake-up meetings.
