Extra Habit: Setting and Achieving Goals
Pavan Kumar Rathore, Other, Qatar

I accept that the good habits are necessary to building positive self-esteem and image, it is a universal truth. The Seven Habits model developed by Mr. Stephen Covey is really practical in human being for successive live and very important for total quality people.
I would like to append one more (9th) habit is that "setting and achieving goals". One should scrutinize their goals and make plans to achieve them. Goals should be consistent with our values.

Gerald Morris, Teacher, United States
After teaching this book, I believe that the first 3 habits include the setting of one's goals. I teach the students that the goal setting process, "begins with the end in mind", the goal and "put first things first" the achievement of the goal, must be in alignment with their values. The addition of an eighth habit is, in my opinion, unnecessary.

Extra Habit is Necessary

Dear Mr. Morris, thx for your reaction. But these 3 habits are not related to goal setting and achievement. They are related to organised planning and there is a big difference between such planning and goal setting and achievement. So please think once again on my comments and advise me accordingly.

Stephen Covey: Predictable Results
Ernst Kuntz, Netherlands
Although Stephen Covey has described an 8th habit in his book "The 8th habit, from Effectiveness to Greatness", he has more recently published a book 'Predictable Results in Unpredictable Times'. This book handles about 4 management principles that will lead to good results. Maybe it's good to read that book too and to determine if his latest concepts are useful for your (business) situation.

Pavan, I believe that organized planning is goal setting. Covey talks about building a house, as the begin with the end in mind (to me the building of a house is surely a goal)! He then talks about following up on the building of the house, which to me is clearly the achievement portion of the goal, the setting of the tactics that must be followed to achieve the goal.
The first 3 goals deal with your individual actions and the second 3 deal with organizational actions.
