Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of a Corporation
Ludi Strydom, South Africa
Is the CEO effectively the MD of a Corporation, or do the two fulfill different roles?

Difference CEO and MD

I think it could depend.
But in my case I fulfill both roles.
I manage the company and assume the legal accountability.
I think this is the difference between CEO and MD. The CEO shall assume the legal liability.

CEO versus MD

I agree that it depends. In a large organisation one could have multiple MD's running divisions or departments of the business and they in turn all report to (always only one) CEO.
That said, ultimately my view is that the role itself is the same. It's the top executive of an organisation and the naming of the post is dependant on the choices made by the board.

I can not differenciate. Both the CEO and a MD are the highest ranking corporate officers and typically report to the board of directors. The overall activities of an organisation under various department is under the control of CEO or MD.
