Network Brainstorming (via Internet)
Alexander N. Raikov, Director, Russian Federation

Network brainstorming (on the Internet) (electronic brainstorming) is as a process much more difficult than the traditional process conducted in one room:
- Members of the group don't recognize and understand each other easily.
- They create contradictory ideas, and the leader does not know what to do.
- Difficulties in performing network technologies tend to emerge due to various aspects of the divergent process that precedes it - large numbers of messages, comments and different interpretations of the comments.
- Same problems are related to the cognitive characteristics of the conversational process.
Because of these reasons the network brainstorming process needs special support for making it more convergent.
Itís advisable to utilize a special Convergent Network Meeting System (CNMS), which is based as on using Electronic Brainstorming Systems (EBS) and Distributed Situation Centers Systems (DSCS), as the fundamental laws of thermodynamics, quantum semantics and ill-defined (ill-posed) problem solution methods.

Virtual Brainstorming versus Traditional Brainstorming
Abdulhameed Hamdi Assayid, Teacher, Saudi Arabia
Virtual brainstorming means you express your idea or ideas via the internet, not face to face.
Whereas in traditonal brainstorming you express your ideas face to face, which enhances your thinking out of the box.
What further differences exist between the two, for example in terms of importance, outcomes, creativity and effectiveness?

Differences? Important factors of virtual brainstorming are:
1) Participants of the brainstorming process belong to one team (especially for virtual corporations) or not.
2) There is a problem statement to reach strategic agreement between members of the the brainstorming team or not.

I humbly add that a person who directs the brainstorming and pulls the ideas together for dissemination to the group is very important to keep the virtual brainstorming effective.
When it is difficult to get a group in one physical location, brainstorming via email or using an online platform can be just as effective. Remember to set clear guidelines and a deadline for adding ideas.
