The Role of Benchmarking in Production vs. Quality
Fouda Gothard, Director, Cameroon

I'm in charge of both production and quality in my company. Given that those two functions are usually in collision, how can benchmarking help me to manage both functions efficiently without antagonism?

Benchmarking of Production versus Quality
Angel Diaz, Manager, Ecuador
It occurs to me, you can interchange roles between the supervisors of production and QA. This could be a practical way of develop benchmarking, each person now understanding each other's responsibilities and roles.
Do you think that is feasible?

External Benchmarking of the Quality of Production Methods
Jaap de Jonge, Editor, Netherlands
When we're considering benchmarking (the quality of) our products with that of competitors, we can also consider benchmarking our production methods / processes with those of competitors / similar production entities.
The aim of the QA people in such an external benchmarking process should not be trying to be smarter than the production people, but that working together as a team, we try to beat the competition.

Benchmarking for Production and Quality Relationship
Fernando Ochoa, Manager, Mexico
A clear example for benchmarking is the Toyota Production System (TPS), where the production line associates are fully responsible for the outcome produced, through problems identification and calling for support all the time. This is related to the company culture and it is fully supported by the upper management. I recommend you some literature such as the book The Toyota Way, or Taiichi Ohno, Toyota Production System or GeMBA Kaizen by Masaaki Imai. I am responsible of an operation and have utilized tactics related to TPS to eliminate conflicts between Production and Quality in a very successful way.
