Balanced Scorecard is Developing...
Midas Sekgabo, Head - Strategy and Projects, Botswana

The BSC concept has proved to be fluid and developing with time. Hence the more reason one needs to constantly keep pace with recent developments.
This framework has aligned itself very well with other concepts like TQM, Six Sigma and others. It is indeed a double loop feedback. Many thanks.

Don't you think that we should add a new perspective to BSC?
I mean environment. If not yet, soon it will be on the top of the agenda. Look at DJSI, Lohas type of approaches. What are your comments?

Environment in BSC

Feza, you could integrate it as part of the customer perspective, or as part of the financial perspective. Let me explain it: good environment practices translate in a better company image, which can tilt some (green funds) investors towards companies with a good environmental record.

Feza, it is important to remember that BSC is simply a strategic framework that balances perspectives of an organization. If environmental issues are captured in the BSC depends on your firm's strategy.
In my firm we incorporate environment issues into all 4 perspectives:
- We build environmental awareness and intelligence into our learning and growth strategy.
- We create strategic objectives for driving our environmental management and control processes under the internal business process perspectives.
- We define clear image and brand objectives in the customer perspectives.
- W articulate how much of our financial resources is deployed to sustainability.
For us, it's not more perspectives that is the solution, rather it is a strategy that clearly captures what our vision is and translates that to reality.

Mr. Ozalp,
There in no limitation for perspectives. If you need additional perspective you can add new one. It depends on your strategic priorities.
