Deliverable

Description of Deliverable. Explanation.

Definition Deliverable. Description.

A Deliverable is any tangible outcome that is produced by a task, project or program. It is any tangible, measurable output. Examples are: documents, reports, plans, computer systems, a building, etc. Another word for it is product.

Two kinds of deliverables can be distinguished (as per Prince2 terminology):

  1. Specialist Product, i.e. an intended result of project work, such as:

    • Installed software.

    • Erected buildings.

    • Trained people.

  2. Management Product, i.e. (usually) a document used to manage the project, such as:

    • Business case.

    • Project plan.

    • Reports.

Internal deliverables are produced as a consequence of executing the project, and are usually only needed by the project team. External deliverables are those that are created for clients and stakeholders.
